I am a connoisseur of life. I find it fascinating, absorbing and so so entertaining. Events and experiences around me seem to be part of the mysterious drama of life. There is a place for everything and a role for everyone. Naturally for me, even ordinary sights, people, events and encounters narrate a story of life. They make me reflective about the magic of life. Some of these experiences and reflections, I share them through my blogs.

Enter this world of mine, ENJOY!

Start with ONE, Work till DONE!

Re-energising through Focused Work! I learned this lesson over the past week. It's about returning to focused, energised work after a period of pause, break or rest. This lull might happen for different reasons:

1. a break you took,

2. physical exhaustion,

3. running out of ideas, or

4. a loss of motivation.

5. Any other unexplainable reason

So how do you bounce back? Here is what I went through and Learnt!

For me, it was physical exhaustion during two phases in the last 10 days.

1.  After a five-day family trip to a hill station where I had high energy and lots of activity. When I returned home, I felt completely exhausted and spent 14 hours in bed. However, I had to travel the next day and decided to go since my energy level was at 7 out of 10.

2. This trip involved more activities that demanded focus and energy. After an engaging afternoon and a nine-hour workshop the next day, I felt drained again when I flew back home.

So, I decided to take three days off for full recovery.

On days one and two, I stuck to my plan. Yesterday, I decided to try getting back to work. But even with the desire, I couldn't focus.

a. I sat at my laptop, but my mind wandered and I got distracted.

b. I would make a beginning and see that I am drifting away easily.

c. I would sit down to start something but would end up browsing, checking messages and doing inconsequential things!

Today, I made a clear decision: pick one task and do it until it's finished. I told myself not to get up until that activity was done. I embedded the message as a slogan:

Start with ONE,

Work till DONE!

This resolution happened before lunchtime, after trying other things like making a to-do list and reading articles. After lunch, I took a break and slept for an hour. I started working at 3:15 and stuck to my plan of focusing on one goal until it was finished.

I'm happy to say that I completed an important task – the final draft of the first chapter of a book I'm writing. The formula of focusing on one thing and working until it's done was successful.

Some takeaways from this experience are similar to the idea of a flight's takeoff.

First, a small vehicle pushes the big aircraft back before it slowly glides on the tarmac.

Secondly, Once on the tarmac, it picks up a bit of speed and on its own comes to the take-off point.

Third, It slowly and gradually builds up, becoming stronger until it takes off.

Once it takes off, the speed is about 200 times faster than before. This is about applying energy and focusing on one thing. At first, you might do it slowly and gradually, but stay focused and give it your all.

Go through each step: pushing back, moving slowly on the tarmac, checking your engines at the takeoff point, and picking up speed on the runway. Then take off, fly, and land according to your plan.

I'm happy with my flight plan and learned a good lesson.

When you want a breakthrough or to do something different, focus on one thing and work on it until you finish.

It's a great lesson for Mother's Day. By the way, Happy Mother's Day to all mothers and those with motherly hearts. All the best!
